[B] Inspired Photography by Julie Boysen

Some stories make you feel something after you read them. Long after the chapter is read, you catch yourself thinking about the plot, imagining what is to come, or being amazed by what you had already read and how the story had twisted in such a beautiful way.

This is the way I feel about Christy and Jonathan's story. This chapter I had the privilege of witnessing felt like a redemption chapter - the one that lines the story up to go in a dramatically different and wonderful direction. Christy adds vibrance and color to Jonathan's life, and he is her safe spot: a calm strength.

I loved everything about their wedding, from the surrounding love from their tribe to the worship during the ceremony to the reception at Papio Fun Park. Seriously, if anyone else is having food trucks at their wedding reception, I am FOR SURE the photographer for you! Many details brought fun into the day, including matching Converse, playful photos at the park, adorable ring bearers and the couples "First GoKart Ride" in place of the first dance.

I wish you both all the happiness in the world!

Hearing Sarah's description of  'G' warmed my heart. She is spunky and sweet, smart and full of energy. She loves princess' and twirling and is clearly adored by everyone around her. I enjoyed their session tremendously and had fun heading back to my childhood home. I really believe it is one of the most beautiful places in Nebraska!

I recently got to meet the lovely and gracious 'P' family. I secretly adore people watching and seeing how families interact with each other. Watching this family together was a #familygoals moment for sure! They laughed together easily, had inside jokes and looked at each other sweetly and with grace. I loved the teasing, but also the thoughtful and more serious political discussions with their teens. They frequently open their home to others (including whole groups of teenagers!) and that type of hospitality and generosity is something I admire.

There are some girls that you know from the time they are tiny are just extra special. Lydia is one of the precious ones. She is generous with her love and her time, she is constantly serving those around her and all the while does it was a joyful heart. We knew that she would need an extra special guy and I'm so happy she found him, or possibly more accurately, he found her and kept pursuing her even when she could barely give him the time of day!

Randy treats Lydia like a princess. He loves her so sweetly. Their strengths seem to work beautifully together and I can't wait to see what is in store for them in the future.

There's a scene between Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan in the movie "You've Got Mail" that I can't help but think of. As Kathryn Kelly (Meg Ryan) is struggling with her business and knowing all the years and memories of business with her mom is coming to an end, Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) tells her to remember, "It's not personal. It's business."

That scene has come to mind so many times this year because to be honest, it's personal. My business isn't just a paycheck. Photography to me is a creative process where I pour my heart and soul into creating a gift for you to cherish for a lifetime. While generally this brings me much joy, it also has a deeply heavy side of grief. Sometimes my gift ends up being all you get for the rest of your life. That comes with a heavy weight for me.

In the last 15 months I have experienced the death of 5 clients.

Five.

For 4, and possibly 5, I was the last professional photographer to take their photo.

For 4 their death was completely unexpected and stunned us all completely.

I spent the first day of 2017 attending a funeral, and again the last week of 2017. Then again this past weekend. Tears are overflowing even as I write this.

The Professional Photography climate is tough right now. Digital photography has opened a whole new, wonderful world. We all finally get everything we could possible want on our phone, including a great camera. But with that wonderful invention has come a culture change as well. A culture that moves at such a fast pace from one thing to the next that we forget to tangibly archive the moments and memories. All those sweet faces end up on old phones, hard drives, clouds (maybe) and CD's that have the future of the 8 track tape. While I believe the pendulum will swing back to some extent, technology is changing so fast that it's hard to know what is in store for us.

The industry as a whole has changed. As any photographer that has been in business for any length of time can tell you, after taxes and expenses, its a hustle to make it profitably. Most professional photographers have another source of income to get by. I hesitate to write this because it is not intended to be a pity party in any way, but rather a discussion about value. Unfortunately, sometimes this art that we produce becomes literally priceless.

As I mourn and process these losses, the message that I want to take away is to value those around me. To schedule photos and get in the picture, even if I haven't lost the 10 pounds I wanted to. To print my memories, as well as back them up in the cloud (this is tornado country after all!). And to remember.

To remember my beautiful little friend Kylie - one of the sweetest souls you could ever imagine.

And, to remember Allie- the tiniest Angel I have ever seen.

And Robin- the most generous and kind person you could ever meet.

And the brother of the groom who quietly stood by, so supportive and loving.

And the sister who was always smiling that big smile.

I remember you.

All of you.

Because, it's personal.

About Me

about me

Hi! I’m Julie Boysen (the B behind [B] Inspired!) While I joke that my full time boss is my sweet baby and my energetic son, photography is the way I choose to fill the rest of my time.

Creating beautiful images is my escape, creative passion and the excuse to satisfy my naturally nerd-y/geek tendancies.

I am a Nebraska girl and love the wide open spaces of our tiny hometown, but I also love the conveniences of the city (Oh, Hello Starbucks!). I fall prey to the hypnotic effects of Target, (”I only need 1 thing... how did all of this end up in my cart????”) and I frequently spend the time that I should be doing my laundry on dreaming about my next vacation/stay-cation.

Anthony (the original [B]) is the love of my life and adventure partner. He has faithfully supported me and loved me through thick and thin for 15+ years now. We are big fans of marriage and I am a much better person because of him.

Thank you so much for trusting me to photograph your most precious treasures in life- your family! I love being a part of your celebrations, monumental moments, as well as documenting the sweetness of everyday life that when you’ll miss the most. Without you, living my dream would not be possible.
